In the past two years on the WESTTEST, results show Fairmont Senior High School exceeds state averages.
Ranked 13th out of 123 high schools in the state, the school’s goal is 90% of all students will score at mastery or above in all three content areas.
In the previous two years the average performance on Math—
81% at or above mastery;
Science—92% at or above mastery; and
Language—80% at or above mastery.
The West Virginia Writing Assessment for the same period
reflects outstanding performance on each of four random prompts completed online.
Persuasive –82% at or above mastery;
Narrative—90% at or above mastery;
expository—75% at or above mastery;
and descriptive—79% at or above mastery.
Writing is taught across the curriculum
and the scores validate that commitment.
With a graduation rate of 90% and
an attendance rate of 92%
the school takes pride in second consecutive
West Virginia Exemplary School award.
With a staff that “Expects Excellence”
this achievement has been realized four of the previous six years.

SAT profile for 2006 FSHS students’
scores were 40 points higher than national standards on reading;
50 points better in math, and 53 points better in writing.
ACT performed better than state and national test takers in 2006 on every portion of the test demonstrating a 22.4 composite score (1.3 points better than the national average.
